How to Use an AI Assistant Well in Daily Life

By the Chundu Laboratories team · 4 min read · Updated 24 October 2026

AI assistants like Jivra can draft a message, explain a confusing bill, plan a week of meals or suggest a name for your shop in seconds. Yet many people try one once, get a vague answer and give up. The difference between a disappointing reply and a genuinely useful one is usually how the question is asked. This guide covers the habits that make the biggest difference.

Give context, not just a topic

An assistant knows nothing about your situation unless you tell it. "Plan a trip" produces a generic list. "Plan a three-day trip to Mysore for a family of four with a budget of ₹15,000, travelling by train from Bengaluru, with one elderly parent who cannot walk long distances" produces something you can actually use. Before you send a question, ask yourself what a helpful friend would need to know: who it is for, the goal, the limits and any preferences.

Say what shape you want the answer in

You can ask for the format directly. Useful requests include:

  • "Give me five options in a numbered list."
  • "Explain it in three short paragraphs, as if I am new to this."
  • "Make a table comparing price, pros and cons."
  • "Keep it under 100 words."
  • "Reply in Telugu" or "Reply in simple Hindi."

Format instructions are cheap to add and save you from scrolling through long replies.

Treat it as a conversation

The first answer is a draft. If it is too formal, say "make it friendlier". If it missed something, say "you forgot that the event is on a weekday". If you like one idea out of five, say "expand option three". Following up usually gets you a much better result than starting over with a new question.

Good everyday uses

  • Writing: emails, messages, applications, social posts, speeches and greeting-card wishes.
  • Understanding: explaining a term in a document, a news topic or how something works.
  • Planning: daily schedules, packing lists, study or workout plans, meal ideas from what is in your fridge.
  • Brainstorming: names, gift ideas, business ideas, questions to ask in an interview.
  • Learning: step-by-step explanations, practice questions, summaries of long text you paste in.
  • Small coding and spreadsheet help: formulas, short scripts and fixing error messages.

Know where AI is weak

Language models predict likely text. That makes them fluent, but fluency is not the same as truth. They can state wrong facts confidently, invent sources or quotes, and miscalculate. Small models make more of these mistakes than large ones. Some practical rules follow from this:

  • Check facts that matter, such as dates, prices, laws, phone numbers and medicine doses, against an official or trusted source.
  • Do not rely on AI alone for medical, legal or financial decisions. Use it to prepare questions for a doctor, lawyer or adviser, not to replace them.
  • For recent events, remember that a model only knows what was in its training data.
  • Ask it to show its steps for any calculation, then check the steps.

Protect your privacy

Never paste passwords, OTPs, full Aadhaar or bank numbers, card details or other people's private information into any chatbot. If you want help with a document that contains personal details, remove or replace them first, for example by writing "[name]" and "[account number]". Jivra does not store chats, but the safest habit is the same everywhere: share only what the task needs.

A simple template

When you are not sure how to ask, fill in this pattern:

  • Role or situation: "I run a small tailoring shop..."
  • Task: "...write a WhatsApp message to customers..."
  • Details: "...announcing Diwali timings, 10 AM to 9 PM, closed on the festival day..."
  • Format: "...friendly, under 60 words, with one emoji."

Use it to think, not to stop thinking

The best users treat AI like a fast, well-read helper whose work still needs checking. Let it handle the blank page, the first draft and the explanation you were too shy to ask for. Keep the judgement, the final decision and the fact-checking for yourself. Used that way, an assistant saves real time every single day.
